This is the best performance indicator for a personal trainer, all gyms have it. Insist on getting it done, ideally on an empty stomach but if you don't get the time to do it first thing in the morning get it done at anytime, the scales wont jump up significantly. 

Visual Comparisons (Not recommended for people who just want to be 'fit'): Progress photos can be a powerful way to visually track changes. Use consistent lighting and poses to capture accurate comparisons. This is ideal for those who get on a very strict diet combined with a moderate to high training routine, weekly progress will be seen here.
